Ashton Garrison walked away from a privileged life in order to hide from the one thing she’s not willing to face. She knows she left behind a trail of pain, but in the long run, her betrayal will hurt less than the truth. She now has one goal: Live life to the fullest with no regrets and no attachments. She has high hopes that a move to new surroundings will provide the escape she desires, but what Ashton doesn’t count on is how fate always seems to find a way to screw up any good plan. Sometimes, when love comes knocking, the pull is too strong not to answer. Suddenly, what she thought she wanted to escape from is what Ashton now wants more than anything.
Nathan Lockton has one mission: find his target and complete the task he was hired to do—no attachments and no emotion necessary. He’s done it over and over again. What he thought was a typical lost-and-found job has turned into a life examining moment as Nathan is forced to deal with something he has always ignored–his feelings. Now faced with a decision, Nathan must choose to either follow his heart or complete the job.
Love can come when you least expect it. The question is: If the odds are stacked against you, how far are you willing to go for the one you love?

4.5 “Best Bike Ride Ever” Kisses
*Heads up – there will be babbling in this review…but in my defense, I can’t help it 🙂 *
Wow…I needed this book in my life. Badly. I abso-freakin-lutely loved every single part of this book. It made me laugh…a lot. It made me cry…a lot more than I want to admit. It squeezed my heart, it brought me joy, and I just want MORE! I don’t care if that makes me greedy, there is not one aspect of this book that didn’t satisfy me.
Ashton Garrison…she’s 22 and living her life with a new purpose. Four months ago she completely uprooted herself and changed everything…she’s got a plan, kind of, but the important thing is she is doing what she wants to do. She’s sassy, she’s spunky, she’s so freaking funny and I absolutely loved her to pieces. I don’t try and look for flaws in my heroine, but honestly I can’t really think of a flaw that she had. She wasn’t perfect…but her imperfections did not take away from her likeability and they were what formed her character.
“Somewhere over the last five years, I’d forgotten who I really was.”
Nathan Lockton…well, if you want to call him that…or you can call him:
– tall, dark, he-can-have-my-panties-any-day seximist
– tall-dark-panty-dropping-worthy hunk
– Tall, Dark and Dreamy
– Mr. Seximist
– Mr. Voice
– Bang-a-licious
– Prince Hotness
– Tall Drink of Handsomeness
– Mr. Sexy Voice
– Mr. Hot and Sexy
– Make-Me-Wet Stranger
– Mr. Handsome
Getting the picture here people??? *sigh* I swooooned over Nathan, big time. On top of everything else, he was mysterious. He has secrets too, but his secrets have to do with Ashton. He grew up being the ‘man of the house’…or more like ‘man of the trailer’…he didn’t have an easy childhood, but given the fact that he’s 29 and basically has his own ‘business’, he must have done something right. He doesn’t get attached, he doesn’t make exceptions, and he never breaks his rules. Until her…
‘‘Her voice washed over me like a seductive caress, laced with an equal share of innocence and wisdom that hinted at a hidden inner pain.’
She’s trying to pick him up in a bar…He’s already planned to pick her up in said bar…the conversation that occurs is one of the funniest I have ever read in a book. From this initial meeting, Ashton and Nathan spend the next week together…but it’s just for fun… ‘No attachments. Take it or leave it.’, right? Yup…thought so…
‘It was unfair that even in mortification his wink had the power to seduce me.’
They were so attached and so was I. I don’t care how many times I read about people falling for each other so quickly….and anyone who has never experienced it can doubt all you want – I have…and I married him, so Bring. It. On! I love it! Regardless of the time, the emotions were there, the connection was there, the passion was there – it was the best combination and I was salivating over it.
‘He cupped my face gently in his hands, holding it in place. My breath hitched in my lungs as he leaned in to drop a soft kiss on my lips. Where the other kisses we had shared ignited the lust we felt for each other, this kiss was something entirely different. The softness of his lips caressed mine as his tongue slowly slid into my mouth. He explored my mouth leisurely, never increasing the intensity. It was as if he was trying to memorize every detail and was meticulous with his mission. The tenderness of his mouth made my heart ache and I wished it would never end.’
I have to say this book has some of the best dialogue I have ever read…ever. It was fluid, it was natural, it was real. My eye never once tripped over one word they said…whether it was hilarious, hot or gut wrenching…every last syllable was perfection. But…something that was lacking for me, physical descriptions. I am all about the little details – the color of their eyes, the lines and angles in his face, the freckle on her nose…it helps me paint a mental picture of the characters. Aside from the fact that she was a ‘delicate brunette’ and he was ‘tall, dark and handsome’ (among other things) – those are the only details I have to go on. Granted…I was okay with it in this context because I was so wrapped up in what was going on, I could overlook it, but it did make me raise my eyebrow later.
‘One thing was clear: Ashton was nothing like I expected. How was I going to get her out of my system when everything about her seemed to pull me in?’
So…heads up in advance…chapter 19 = :’( That was just the beginning of the waterworks for me, I was teary eyed off and on from that point forward. Even though I figured it out by 40%, I still wasn’t sure how things were going to happen and fall into place…and she did keep that suspense and wonder going until over 70%. I love to be tortured, I don’t hide that fact, and I was…waiting for the shoe to drop, wondering when/how it was going to happen. Just one more reason I was tied up in knots.
‘”Sometimes life has a way of preventing you from doing the things you want to do the most,” I answered evasively.’
Now I don’t normally go into too much detail about supporting characters…but I have to say that I am in LOVE with Tressa…hard core. The girl is just flat out hilarious and within the first few pages she says “Chillax” – Really? Do you need any other reasons to love this girl? Nope…me either. Her liners are incredible and she’s exactly the kind of friend Ashton needs in her life right now. And speaking of that, I loved her friendship with Ashton, because even though they have only known each other 4 months, you would think they had been bff’s forever.
‘There’s a time in everyone’s life when I’m sure they wonder if fate is actually some dude watching from beyond, just waiting for the right moment to fuck with us.’
I absolutely cannot get enough of books that after you’re finished reading, when you go back and re-read a line or a quote later, it takes on a whole new perspective. It’s like your eyes have been opened and you’re reading it for the first time again…there are just no words to describe it. It warms my heart. No Attachments has that…big time. When I was going back over my quotes, it would make me tear up…again! Ugh! Love that…
I am faced once again with the fact that I don’t want Ashton and Nathan to be over. They got their HEA…but I want more. I feel that there is more. And until I am forced to believe it, I will sit in denial land and hope there is continuation of their story. There is definitely more for Tressa…there is a juicy tale just waiting to be told out of that girls mouth and I promise you every bit of it will be hilarious and awesome. I will leave you with two of the things that made me smile the most in this book…and I will leave them without explanation…so that way you are forced to read the book to understand 🙂
