Our secrets define us.
I’ve run far to escape my past. Eight years and almost two thousand miles lie between me and the horror that consumes me. My life is a series of superficial relationships and closed doors designed to keep me safe. I will never let myself become the person I was. That girl is dead, and in her place is a woman who guards her inner self fiercely. I’m not going to let anyone breach those hard earned barriers. Not even him.
But when those secrets come home to roost, I have to decide what I’m willing to risk for my happily ever after. When the evil I left behind finds me, I have to choose. Will I succumb to the girl I was and crumble under the pressure? Or can I break the cycle and finally be free to fly?

Zoe,
Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day. You aren’t really a fan of the ‘lovey-dovey’ stuff, as you call it. We’ve been together for just over two years now, and I know you well enough to know that when tomorrow comes, you’ll go about your day as normal. Well, probably with a few extra eye rolls for all the red hearts and flying cupids. You have no patience for celebrating a holiday built around celebrating love. It just isn’t your style.
And that’s fine. The thing is, for me every day is Valentine’s Day. Every day is a day I look at you and send up a silent cheer that you’re in my life. I don’t need a special day to acknowledge our love. It’s everywhere. It’s in every gesture, every word, and every kiss. We are our love, and it isn’t constrained to February fourteenth.
But I’m going to get you flowers anyway. I’m going to make you get dressed and drag you down to our favorite place to eat and shower you with little kisses because tonight, it’s worldwide. Our love is global, and as far as I’m concerned every other couple is only there as garnish for the glow that is us. You and me, bright eyes. It’s you and me, united against the world.
I love you. Every damn day of the year. Never doubt it.
Logan
