*~*Love Note: Lucian to Evelyn – Lucian Divine by Renee Carlino*~*

From USA Today Bestselling Author, Renée Carlino, comes a totally unique love story that is sure to make you question what’s out there . . . or who.
“My guardian angel is a drunk.”
Evelyn Casey’s life is at a standstill. She’s in her mid-twenties, struggling with the dating scene in San Francisco. Nothing seems to be working out, and she’s starting to think that she’ll live out her days in her crummy apartment with her overbearing roommate, Brooklyn. It’s absurd, but sometimes Evey longs for a guardian angel to show up and save the day.
And then he does. Seriously. His name is Lucian and he’s a guardian angel, been on the job for two thousand years. His sudden presence in her life is both good—he’s brilliant, witty, and warm—and bad—he’s brilliant, witty, warm, and hot as —-. But as perfect as Lucian seems, he’s got problems of his own. He’s taken up drinking and he’s brazenly inserted himself into Evey’s life, going against the greatest cosmic law ever created.
For Evey, the rules are simple: You are not allowed to hook up with your guardian angel. But sometimes fulfilling your destiny requires a leap of faith, a confrontation with God.
Yes, God as in God.
Oh Lucian…so incredibly swoony!

Evey,
Remember when we were at your parent’s house, standing in your childhood bedroom and I told you that even though I had known you your whole life, you were still a mystery to me? It’s true. I don’t know how you have this effect on me. I am supposed to be immune to feeling like this, but here I am, like a schmuck, standing in line at the florist, waiting to buy them out every Peony in the city. Is it because you’re not a red roses girl, because you couldn’t care less about make-up, or girly things, because you’re willing dive into a plate of ribs with unrestrained determination? Or maybe it’s because you can’t see a stray dog or cat without pulling over and rescuing it, even if you have to break twelve traffic laws to do it. Or maybe because you were so willing to sacrifice yourself for me.
You’ve taught me how to love selflessly. You’ve taught me how to accept my fate. I’m two thousand years older than you, and yet you are my greatest teacher. I’m in awe of you everyday. These silly holidays mean little to me, besides just another day to tell you that I love you.
You’ve changed me. You’ve made me better.
So, I’ll be the schmuck. I get you chocolates and a cake. We’ll sit on top of the table and feed each other bites. I’ll find some 80s throwback store just so I can buy a boombox and play Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes,” from outside the apartment. I will lipsync to Otis Redding for you any day of the week, and I promise that no matter what happens to us, what our fate will be for making this decision, no one can take this love away from us. I promise to protect our love. It is sacred, it is our legacy and it’s ours to keep forever.
Happy Valentines Day.
PS. I got into a fight with the florist because he said he couldn’t sell me all the Peonies. 120 will have to do…

I’m a California native currently residing in a beach town in Southern California where I live with my husband, our two boys, and our sweet dog, June. Even though I’ve lived in California my whole life, I’ve had a long-standing affair with the big city. New York City, Chicago and Los Angeles are some of my favorite places. I like to place my characters in different settings where I can use the unique qualities of the location to help tell the story.
I started writing creatively as a teenager, first with poetry and short stories, and then finally to the long prose as an adult. I’m obsessed with love stories and the drama and complexities that exist within our intimate relationships. In 2002’ I received a film degree and thought I would see the stories in my head play out on film but something always brought me back to the written word. My time as a seventh grade English teacher helped to reacquaint me with my love of reading and writing and soon I was devoting much of my free time to it.
Music also plays a huge role in my life. I’ve often referred to music as my lifeblood so that’s why I’ve included an on-going, ever-changing playlist on my website to share some of the songs that have inspired and evoked emotion in me, especially in my writing. Whether I’m writing about musicians or cowboys, I’m always listening to music, so I love getting new recommendations.
I’ve said before that my first friends were the imaginary kind and in many ways they still are. I love writing these stories and watching my characters grow and I’m grateful to be able to share them with you. I also really love hearing from readers so please drop by my Facebook page or twitter and say hello.
