Take one sexy bartender. Add a badass cop. A splash of sweet, that’s me. One sour, that’s him… and serve over ice.
That’s how you’ll get to my current situation. You know the girl – the one who commands the scene, bottle of liquor in hand, pouring liquid fire into the willing throats of patrons as they let loose at the local bar?
That’s me.
I may be known as the town party girl, but in reality I’m this close to my dream of opening my own bar – McConaugheys. Yes, it will be named after the acclaimed actor. What can I say? I’m a sucker for that sexy Texan.
Everything was going as planned until the night I had a few drinks and accepted a ride home from a friend. A misunderstanding leads to an arrest, and now I’m at the mercy of the one man I can’t stand, and trust me, the feeling is definitely mutual.
Adam Reingold is six-feet-tall and built like a stallion — the man is the epitome of male. He also happens to be the town narc and hates my guts. There’s a story to our past and it’s not a pretty one.
So, now, here I am, chained to him for the summer like a hardened criminal, doing whatever he tells me to do. Problem is, I can’t help but look at him when he’s not watching and wonder what our future could be like if things were different.
There are so many reasons why he’s all wrong for me. Even more reasons why I need to stay away from him.
It’s a cocktail of trouble. Best served shaken, not stirred.
Describe Leah in one sentence.
A Matthew McConaughey-lovin’ wild-child whose dream of owning her own bar is put in jeopardy when she gets into a car wreck and has to do 100-hours of community service building houses at Homes For All Souls.
Describe Adam in one sentence.
A straight-laced cop who’s spent the last seven years avenging his best friend’s death while secretly coveting the girl he hurt long ago.
Wrecked is about Leah and Adam, a small town bartender and the local cop, who can’t stand each other. Leah finds herself in trouble and at Adam’s mercy. Why do these two hate each other?
Leah and Adam were once friends until her boyfriend, and his best-friend, Brad, died of a drug overdose. Something happened between the two that has made them enemies for seven years. Leah ignores the past while Adam has formed a stone wall around himself.
Adam makes a deal with Leah. Why does he help her out when he can’t stand her?
Sometimes we hold onto a grudge even when we’ve (secretly) let it go a long time ago. We just don’t know how to break the mold. Adam helping Leah is his way of seeing if she was worth getting to know again.
Favorite and least favorite scene to write in Wrecked? (Without spoiling! 🙂 )
There is a scene where Adam literally pushes Leah to the brink of admitting why she has hated him for so long. It’s raw and crosses the line of what a man should do to a woman in an argument. I both loved and hated writing this scene because of its human factor. I physically and mentally felt every push and pull. It was INTENSE!!!
There is a Matthew McConaughey-esque strip tease, which is hands-down my absolute favorite scene in the book! <swoon!!!>
Leah is a bartender…what’s her beverage of choice?
Long Island Iced Tea – It’s strong, sweet and makes for one hell of a party!
What are three things Adam can’t live without?
His badge (to serve +protect), his hammer (to build stuff 😉 ) and knowing Leah is safe.
If you could write any scene in Adam’s POV…which one would it be?
We have a villain in this story and his name is Nico Martinez. There is a really powerful scene where Nico is attacking Leah and Adam rushes in to save her. I’d love to show readers what that scene looks like to an outsider and every thought running through Adam’s head at the sight of Leah in Nico’s grasp. It would be filled with rage, desperation and – dare I say – fear.
Best part about writing Leah and Adam.
Taking two people who are polar opposites and having them connect with an intensity that pours off the pages! There’s a scene where they get into a fight over Leah’s pornographic eating of a banana that makes me laugh just thinking about it because it’s so quintessential Leah and Adam. I may just have to write a follow-up novella because they were that much fun to create!
Have we met these characters in another story?
Yes! Leah was this wild-child, Matthew McConaughey-loving sister of the main character, Emma in Reckless Abandon. Fans LOVED Leah! My husband came up with the idea of telling her story and the rest is history!
Speaking of Matthew McConaughey . . . Where does the infatuation come from?
The man is sexy-as-hell and has the best quotes ever! Ex: “Life is a series of commas, not periods.” His wisdom is woven throughout the storyline. I have a life-size cutout of the man. You can check him out on my instagram @jeanninecolette
This is your first novel that is not part of the Abandon Collection. Why not?
All of the books in the Abandon Collection feature a real-life city and a rose of a different color. Cedar Ridge, Ohio is a fictional town and there is no rose theme. (Although I did drop a rose reference in the book for fans 😉
How would you describe your writing style?
First-person, present tense in the female POV. I leave the mystery of what the hero is thinking and what he’s going to do next up to the reader to figure out along with the heroine. I like to write books with angst, a dash of comedy and a whole lot of sexiness! I consider this the book trifecta!
What are you working on next?
I am writing True Abandon which releases in the fall and dreaming up a story for Leah’s best-friend Suzanne. I’m thinking sexy firefighter . . . (sigh)
