When we were younger, Temperance Price was the quiet girl with dreamy eyes who hung on my every word. She was always beautiful, but I had plans to get out of Red Oak and make a life of my own.
Ten years later, a crushing tragedy has brought me home again—right back to her.
The innocent girl I left is gone, and in her place is a sassy single mom I can’t get out of my head. She’s hired me to fix her house, but I have other things in mind.
She thinksI’m just a handyman.
She thinkswe’re only friends.
She thinksI’ve never noticed her.I think what really needs to be fixed is her whole perspective.

My dear sweet Tempie,
Today is our first Valentine’s Day and I’ve thought all week about how to make today special. Do I whisk you away on a vacation? Do I take you out to a fancy dinner? How can I show you how much you and Ellie mean to me and how I never could’ve imagined I could be this happy?
It’s impossible to show you in one day so instead, I promise to show you every day. But today, today we will celebrate by playing hooky (it’s okay, I know the boss) and spend the whole day in bed. I promise to wear my hard hat, but I’m gonna need some of your cookies or pie for sustenance.
Before you, I was a workaholic with no intention of having a family of my own. But one glance at you in your ridiculous getup and I knew I was wrong. This might be our first Valentine’s, but with my ring on your finger I’m comforted to know that I’ll never have to go another one without you.
Love,
Asher
