*~*Love Notes: Gavin to Penny – Blind Kiss by Renee Carlino*~*

A powerful story of two people who spend years denying their scientifically-proven chemistry.
Penny spends her afternoons sitting outside a sandwich shop, surrounded by ghosts. Fourteen years ago, this shop was her childhood dance studio… Now she’s a suburban housewife, dreading the moment her son departs for MIT, leaving her with an impeccably decorated McMansion and a failing marriage. She had her chance at wild, stars-in-her-eyes happiness, but that was a lifetime ago. After The Kiss. Before The Decision.
The Kiss was soulful. Magical. Earth-shattering, And it was all for a free gift card. Asked to participate in a psych study that posed the question, “Can you have sexual chemistry without knowing what the other person looks like?” Penny agreed to be blindfolded, make polite conversation with a total stranger, and kiss him. She never expected The Kiss to change her life forever and introduce her to Gavin: tattooed, gorgeous, and spontaneous enough to ask her out seconds after the blindfolds came off.
For a year, they danced between friendship and romance—until Penny made The Decision that forced them to settle for friendship. Now, fourteen years later, both of their lives are about to radically change—and it’s his turn to decide what will become of their once-in-a-lifetime connection.
Gavin’s note is ah-mazing!!!

Penny,
It’s Valentine’s day, which really means nothing because I fall in love with you every single day, again and again.
I fall in love with you every Monday morning when I find you standing next to the coffee pot wearing a grumpy face because the weekend is over.
I fall in love with you on Tuesdays when you remind me to take the trash cans out, even though there’s been a post-it note on the door for five years reminding me of the same thing.
I fall in love with you on Wednesdays when we go to Yoga together because even though I pretend to hate it, I love how much you’re into it. I love watching you move.
On Thursdays when I tease you about having already planned every detail of the weekend, I actually think it’s adorable. Your enthusiasm has kept me young.
Sometimes on Fridays when I get home and find you taking a bubble bath, sipping a glass of wine, I try to act cool, like it’s normal. But really, deep down inside, I’m still that excited twenty-something year-old kid who can’t wait to see you naked.
On Saturdays when we read the paper in bed and drink coffee and you comment on every public interest story, I wonder how I met the most thoughtful and compassionate person in the world, and why you chose me to be with.
On Sundays I remind myself of all the Sundays I spent without you, then I look around at the life we’ve built and I’m filled with so much gratitude I can hardly breathe.
So Valentine’s day is just like any other day for me, Penny. I hear your giggle from the other room, or I see you smiling or reading or sleeping or dancing and it fills me up, I fall, and boom! I’m in love all over again.
Happy Every Day! Love, Gavin.

I’m a California native currently residing in a beach town in Southern California where I live with my husband, our two boys, and our sweet dog, June. Even though I’ve lived in California my whole life, I’ve had a long-standing affair with the big city. New York City, Chicago and Los Angeles are some of my favorite places. I like to place my characters in different settings where I can use the unique qualities of the location to help tell the story.
I started writing creatively as a teenager, first with poetry and short stories, and then finally to the long prose as an adult. I’m obsessed with love stories and the drama and complexities that exist within our intimate relationships. In 2002’ I received a film degree and thought I would see the stories in my head play out on film but something always brought me back to the written word. My time as a seventh grade English teacher helped to reacquaint me with my love of reading and writing and soon I was devoting much of my free time to it.
Music also plays a huge role in my life. I’ve often referred to music as my lifeblood so that’s why I’ve included an on-going, ever-changing playlist on my website to share some of the songs that have inspired and evoked emotion in me, especially in my writing. Whether I’m writing about musicians or cowboys, I’m always listening to music, so I love getting new recommendations.
I’ve said before that my first friends were the imaginary kind and in many ways they still are. I love writing these stories and watching my characters grow and I’m grateful to be able to share them with you. I also really love hearing from readers so please drop by my Facebook page or twitter and say hello.
