My Josh. His Beth. Someone else’s Meredith.
Destined to fall apart before their lips have even touched, Samuel Michaels and Meredith Driessen have seven years of almosts between them.
Seven years ago, a night by the river would bind them together. Seven years ago, Sam’s entire world blew up before his eyes.
His only saviour …
Meredith. She saved his life, exposing him to what it could be like to be with her. But that wasn’t Life’s plan. Because deep down, his secrets will destroy their lives and separate them. His secrets will break both their hearts until the day he finds her standing on the edge of the train platform, completely lost.
He did this to her.
And Sam knows that if he doesn’t go to her, he’ll lose her forever.
Will seven years be enough to mend their scars? Or will the secrets they both keep deny them once more?
One thing is certain …
You may never know tomorrow’s sunlight if you’re drowning in yesterday’s storm.
OMG…Sam’s note gave me allll the feels!

My beloved Meredith,
Happy Valentine’s Day.
It’s our first as husband and wife and I didn’t want to give just you a card and some flowers. I wanted to give you words filled with all my love and appreciation for you, your heart, and your love.
For so many years, I held back my love for you. I was a kid who thought I couldn’t have a life of happiness because of my father’s mistakes. I thought I was doing the right thing by taking responsibility. I don’t regret my son but I do regret never making you mine when we were eighteen. I pushed you away and that will never happen ever again.
Because as your husband, my only purpose in life is making you and Josh happy. To the best of my abilities, I will. When I vowed to have you and love you with every sunrise and sunset, I meant it with every breath I have ever made and will make. Because that’s all I want for the rest of my life.
To be worthy of you.
To have you.
To love you.
To grow old with you.
You could have chosen anyone but you chose me. And every day that I get to love you, I know how lucky I am because I did lose you.
Many times.
I almost lost you forever.
Never again.
Your strength, courage, fight, and forgiveness gave me the strength to fight every single day to be a better man, a better husband, and a better father.
You saved my life, Meredith Michaels.
You saved my life the moment you smiled at me at thirteen.
You might never realise it, but you saved me from a life of resentment with your sunlight.
Thank you for saving me.
Thank you for freeing me from my anger at my father. Thank you for loving me when I was a foolish teenager. Thank you for loving me as the man that I am. Thank you for letting me be your first touch of sunlight. Thank you for the life I get to share and love with you.
And most importantly, thank you for loving my son. You’ve spent years loving him when you never had to. Thank you for accepting him, his love, and his place in your heart. You welcomed him with so much love. You’re an incredible stepmother, friend, and role model to him.
I love you, Meredith.
I love your heart, your soul, and the way you’ve always graced my life with the belief of tomorrow being a better day.
My life is and always will be better with you in it.
You gave me sunlight when I was drowning in a storm I created because of fear and judgement.
You freed me to love better and harder.
Thank you for loving me and letting me love you.
Forever yours,
Your husband, Sam.
P.S. Josh wanted to write you a Valentine’s Day card he made at school. I wasn’t allowed to look at it because it’s for you. It’s enclosed in the envelope. My son loves you and idolises you. I know he will grow up with the same outlook on life you have. Thank you for loving him, Meredith.
