An all-new STANDALONE from New York Times bestselling author Julia Kent
It all started with the wrong Help Wanted ad. Of course it did.
I’m a professional fluffer. It’s NOT what you think. I stage homes for a living. Real estate agents love me, and my work stands on its own merits.
Sigh. Get your mind out of the gutter. Go ahead. Laugh. I’ll wait.
See? That’s the problem. My career has used the term “fluffer” for decades. I didn’t even know there was a more… lascivious definition of the term.
Until it was too late.
The ad for a “professional fluffer” on Craigslist seemed like divine intervention. My last unemployment check was in the bank. I was desperate. Rent was due. The ad said cash paid at the end of the day.
The perfect job!
Staging homes means showing your best angle. The same principle applies in making a certain kind of movie. Turns out a “fluffer” doesn’t arrange decorative pillows on a couch.
They arrange other soft, round-ish objects.
The job isn’t hard. Er, I mean, it is — it’s about being hard. Or, well… helping other people to be hard.
Oh, man…
And that’s the other problem. A man. No, not one of the stars on the movie set. Will Lotham – my high school crush. The owner of the house where we’re filming. Illegally. In a vacation rental.
By the time the cops show up, what I thought was just a great house staging gig turned into a nightmare involving pictures of me with a naked star, Will rescuing me from an arrest, and a humiliating lesson in my own naivete.
My job turned out to be so much harder than I expected. But you know what’s easier than I ever imagined?
Having all my dreams come true.
I was already SUPER excited to read this book – now I’m dying to get my hands on Will!!!

Dear Mallory,
I was an idiot in high school. I promise not to be one now. I was looking through my old senior year yearbook and found this note from you:
To Will, who always knows where he’s going. <3 Mallory
Your heart was adorable. So were you.
And you were so wrong.
All I knew when it was time to graduate was that I was goingaway. I didn’t know what I was going to. You, on the other hand, followed your own heart and mind, even back then. You knew what you wanted. You knew who you were.
You didn’t let other people tell you where to go.
Knowing where you’re going when you’re not the one drawing the map is nothing more than a cage. It moves with you and fools you into thinking you’re free.
But you’re not.
Coming back to our hometown felt like a way stop on that map other people drew for me. Accidentally meeting you on that porn set and falling in love wasn’t part of the journey.
Or was it?
I’m scribbling this on the back of a discarded electric bill envelope in your kitchen before I leave to go get fresh donuts and a couple of lattes. Maybe you’ll see it when you wake up. Maybe I’ll throw it away if I come back and you’re still asleep and I don’t want to look like a fool. But know this.
I’ll always come back to you.
Because you rewrote my map. You freed me. And now there’s only one destination.
You.
<3

First, I love all your books! But I do love this note, because of the comment about the map. It is so accurate that we can’t let what we th8nk we should do and where we think we should go determine where we actually go and do. And her being the destination is soooo cute.
