Title: Waiting for Wyatt (Red Dirt Series Book #1)
Author: S.D. Hendrickson
Genre: Contemporary Romance
My name is Emma Sawyer.
I met Charlie and Wyatt on the same sultry, summer day. It was unexpected, leaving a feeling in the pit of my stomach like the time I drove too fast over Beckett Hill. The moment happened out of nowhere, all fast and quick and a little strange. Or maybe that was just Wyatt’s personality.
It was Charlie that brought us together. Little Charlie with those ridiculous ears. I found the dog, waiting in a pool of his own blood. Waiting for someone. Waiting for me.
Now Wyatt, he wasn’t waiting for anyone. At least that’s what he said, except I saw something different in the broken guy all alone out in the woods. I knew he needed me before he knew it himself.
Wyatt with his hidden dimples. Wyatt with his warnings to stay away. He was a hard lump of coal, ready to burn everything around him. The more he burned, the more it pulled me into the pain I saw etched on his troubled face.
I wanted to help Wyatt. I wanted to save him like he had saved all the Charlies in the world. He told me not to fall for him, but I did anyway. I fell hard and fast and deeply in love with Wyatt Caulfield.
But that was before I knew his secret.
Author Note: Waiting for Wyatt is the love story of Wyatt Caulfield and Emma Sawyer, which also features rescue animals. It’s a 112,000 word Standalone Novel. Contemporary Romance / Coming of Age/ New Adult & College

Katie,
I played Tulsa tonight. Some cities pass in a blur. Some hit me with dread. I tried to fight it all day. The longing in my heart to go back to our spot. But I couldn’t stop myself. After the last song, I snuck out a side door and walked to the Center of the Universe. I didn’t say anything. I just stood off in the shadows and watched people walking back to their cars after seeing me up on that big stage. No one even realized I was there.
I closed my eyes and remembered your smile as you said Yes. Remembered us dancing in the center like no else existed in the universe.
Sometimes that night feels like a dream. Maybe another life. And sometimes it feels like yesterday.
I left and went back to the bus. But I couldn’t sleep. I kept hearing your song in my head. So I got out my guitar and played the whole thing. It’s been years. But my heart knew every note. Every word. And I finally I finished it. I wish you could sing it to you over the phone like the old days. Just one more time. But I can’t. So wherever you are tonight, Katie. This one’s for you.
Love always, Lucky.
Goodnight My Darlin’
If the days feel lonely and the nights get tough.
Just know that I’m thinkin’ of you. Even when I’m gone,
And the days get rough.
I’ll come back to you.
A promise I will always keep.
So close your eyes, And think of me as you fall asleep.
’Cause nothin’ has ever felt this right.
Good night, my darlin’.
Good night.
As my head touches the pillow, Sometimes I have to remember. Tonight’s not the end.
Tomorrow will come.
And it starts all over again.
I’ll never stop tryin’ until your heart is mine.
’Cause nothin’ has ever felt this right.
Good night, my darlin’.
Good night.
You’ve been gone for a while now.
But time has never changed the way that I feel.
Just made the pain hurt deeper,
And the love more real.
You’ll always be in my heart.
You’ll be there ’til I die.
When I want to remember you,
I just close my eyes,
And think of those nights.
Good night, my Katie.
Good night.

Burning Confession is a Standalone Short Story and a prequel to My Lucky Days, involving a different character. Reading Lucky is not required to enjoy this story.
When I wrote the songs for My Lucky Days, I included the lyrics for a much darker song compared to the others in the book. In my mind, I had this entire backstory to why Lucky Evans wrote the words. But it wasn’t something that fit into the actual story of Lucky and Katie in My Lucky Days. So he simply performed it one night on stage without any other explanation.
Burning Confession is about the night that inspired the lyrics. Love. Betrayal. Whiskey. Lucky might have made the tale famous, but it was always Cody’s story. He lived every painful moment.
