Dear Melody,
I have a confession to make: I used to hate Valentine’s Day. It always used to feel like some kind of test, and you know how I feel about tests. I dreaded it coming around every February. Sometimes I’d even break up with a girl I was dating, just so I wouldn’t have to do anything for her on Valentine’s Day. Yes, I sucked.
You and I both know I was no prince. I hope I’m a better man now than the one I used to be. I’m so lucky I got a second chance with you, to show you how much I’d grown since we first met. Part of me wishes I could go back and erase our first encounter. But if I did that we might never have found each other when you moved to LA, and I can’t imagine my life without you.
Anyway, I’m getting off topic. Valentine’s Day. I used to hate it. But the last few years I’ve found myself looking forward to it. I love planning a special Valentine’s Day celebration for us every year. I love that it’s the one night of the year when no one expects us to do anything except be alone with each other. I love being with you every February 14th and every other day of the year too. I love you.
I’ll never be as smart or as eloquent as you, babe, but I know how I feel. I want to spend every Valentine’s Day together for the rest of our lives. So I’ve got a question to ask you, and I decided to write it down because I was afraid if I tried to say it out loud I’d get nervous and screw it up.
Will you marry me?
Nod once for yes.
Sure hope I didn’t just make an ass of myself,
Jeremy
