Title: Varsity Heartbreaker (The Varsity Series Book #1)
Author: Ginger Scott
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Lucas Fuller is a lot of things.
He’s the boy next door.
He’s the first crush I ever had.
He was my first kiss.
He’s also the only person who has ever broken my heart.
For two years, I’ve wondered what happened to the us I used to know.
We were best friends, and then suddenly…we weren’t.
I tried to run away from it. I even changed schools just to make the hurt disappear.
But no matter how hard I tried to not think about Lucas, I just couldn’t stay away from the high school quarterback with perfect blue eyes and so many secrets.
I’m back. We’re seniors now. We’ve grown—all of us. And Lucas Fuller might be different, but I’m different too. This is my time to take risks, to experience life and to fall in love for real.
I want Lucas Fuller to be a part of my story, but I know for that to happen, I need to know the truth about our past.

Dear June,
I know you don’t believe me—that I was in love with you first. But I was. I just wanted to write you this small note to prove it to you.
Ava’s eighth grade birthday party? I can’t tell you what flavor the cake was, what gift I brought, or even what parent dropped me off that day. Know what I can tell you though?
I can tell you that you wore a purple dress with black buttons down the back. They were velvet. I touched one of them when your chair was leaning against mine as we sat back-to-back while Ava’s mom sliced up cake for everyone. I can tell you that your Vans were yellow, clashing with your purple dress. Ava made a joke about it, but I said it was really freaking cool. (Note: I did not say freaking.) I can tell you that you arrived to the party about ten minutes after me, and that I waited out front, pretending to play basketball with Ava’s cousin, just so I would know when you showed up. I can tell you that you wore your hair in a braid and that when you took the braid out, your hair looked like a mermaid’s. I can say that you got the corner piece of cake because when you weren’t looking, I swapped our plate because you said you really liked frosting. I can tell you that you chewed grape bubble gum, which I could smell on your breath during the water fight in Ava’s back yard. And I can say that it was me who snapped that large balloon open over your head to get you wet. I didn’t do it to be mean. I did it because I wanted you to notice me, and because I wanted to offer you my sweatshirt when you were cold. I never expected you to have a spare of your own on hand.
So yes, June. I was in love with you first. And I will be in love with you last, too.
Yours,
Lucas
