My dearest heart,
For the first time in many years, I watched the sun rise this morning, and truly saw it. Felt it. Once, I awaited it, welcomed it with gratitude, but then, like all of us, I became accustomed to it. Never saw it, simply expecting it to rise always without fail. Acknowledging it only in its inevitability. But this morning, I realized how very lucky I am to be alive to see it emerge from the horizon once more. Had it not been for you, I might never have seen another again. I might – no, would not – have ever seen this morning, incredible morning that it is, when we become husband and wife.
We have faced so much in order to have today, and still, so much awaits us. Know that I would not change any of it, for we have this day. I have this sunrise, and you. A day of celebration, of family, and strange new friends. A day, for us to be as we should be: Arthur and Lily. A day, to mark the beginning of that shared life I promised you.
And no matter how many sunrises we may have, I know I shall never forget this one.
