Before Hannah was a 9-5 working, dinner making, homebody, she was Ashton James: a paparazzi-stalked pop star with more enemies than friends.
These days she has one priority: keeping her sister safe and away from the public eye.
Hannah was doing a great job, until the pesky little brother of an ex-fling discovers where she is, and wants her help launching his career.
Now she has to trust Johnny—whom she betrayed in more ways than one—to protect her whereabouts. Johnny may have an infuriating moral compass and the timing of a storybook hero, but is he immune to the temptation of revenge?
Johnny’s focus has always been his music business, and a bad influence like Hannah is the last thing he needs at work, or around his brother.
But some things are too powerful to be stopped. For someone like Hannah, second chances—in life and in true love—don’t exist. She didn’t think so, at least.
Johnny is about to prove her wrong, and being wrong has never felt so right.
Key Change is a full-length contemporary romance, can be read as a standalone, and is book #3 in the Common Threads Series, Seduction in the City World, Penny Reid Book Universe.
I love the emotion Johnny puts into his note!

Hannah Lee,
You’re sleeping in the bed next to me. My bed. A place I’ve always thought you belonged.
I couldn’t sleep because my head was too full of every incredible thing that happened today. I needed to write it down.
I need to tell you what today meant to me.
As I watched you sing songs that we wrote together, in a studio that I had helped build, I was overwhelmed with the magnitude of it all.
I never imagined that little studio that means so much to me would become a shared dream. That it would be filled with your voice and your heart and your soul. You breathe life into everything you do. Those words we wrote… I watched you take those simple, inelegant words, and turn them into foundational pieces of my soul.
You’re going to say I’m being dramatic. Which is why I’m writing it down. Partly so you don’t interrupt with an eyeroll, and partly because I need it. I need to say it. To document it. Because it’s real and it’s really happening, and I never want to forget how it feels.
You save me.
Every day.
My heart was broken and broken and broken. And I didn’t even really know how much it was broken until you started putting the pieces back together for me. Just you being you, living the way you live, with conviction and heart and how you never stop trying.
And you love me.
I don’t know how or why, and maybe someday I’ll stop asking myself those questions, but for now I’m just going to accept it as truth.
Because Hannah Lee fucking James doesn’t do anything she doesn’t want to.
God I love you.
It seems like such an inadequate way to say it.
I love all of you. All the pieces you’ve worked so hard to build, and all the pieces you’re ashamed of.
Thank you for trusting me with every part of your heart.
You’re the bravest person I’ve ever known. You face the world with courage and open eyes. You expect nothing and give your everything.
Soon, the world will know that you didn’t disappear. That you didn’t fade away into the darkness of humanity. They’ll see your heart and hear your soul and I have no doubt you will change them for the better.
Much the same way you’ve changed me.
This is our life that we’re building. Together. It’s new but it’s strong.
You will never face anything alone again.
I am yours, in every sense of the word.
And I’ve never felt more loved than when I am loved by you.
Yours Forever,
Johnny
Heidi Hutchinson was born in South Dakota and raised the exact right distance away from the Black Hills. She had an overactive imagination very early on and wasted no time in getting most of her friends in trouble due to her unrealistic and completely ridiculous ideas. Fueled by coffee and her unwavering and perfectly normal devotion to Dave Grohl, she writes stories that she hopes will inspire her readers to take their hearts on one more adventure. She still lives in the Midwest (though not as close to the Black Hills as she would prefer) with her alarmingly handsome husband, their fearless child, and rather large and spoiled dog. Her fuel is still predominantly Dave Grohl and coffee. And a whole lotta love.

SWOON!!!! I love how Johnny opens his heart to Hannah. She needs to hear it. Of course now I want to read Key Changes again.
Is this a teaser for the future: “Soon, the world will know that you didn’t disappear. That you didn’t fade away into the darkness of humanity. They’ll see your heart and hear your soul and I have no doubt you will change them for the better.” Are we going to get more Hannah and Johnny???
