*~*Love Note: Asher to Savannah – The Vixen & The Vet by Katy Regnery*~*

In this modern-retelling of Beauty and the Beast, Savannah Carmichael, betrayed by an unreliable source, returns to her hometown of Danvers, Virginia with her once-promising journalism career in ruins. Given the opportunity to get back in the game by writing a patriotic human interest piece, Savannah turns her attention to the town hermit, Asher Lee, a wounded veteran who returned to Danvers eight years ago, and hasn’t been seen since.
After an IED explosion in Afghanistan took Asher’s hand and disfigured half of his face, he’s lived a quiet life on the outskirts of Danvers where the locals respect his privacy…that is, until Savannah Carmichael comes calling in a borrowed sundress with a plate of homemade brownies. When Asher agrees to be interviewed by Savannah, he starts feeling things for the beautiful reporter that he hasn’t felt in years.
Misfits in small-town Danvers, Savannah and Asher create a bond right away, touching each other’s hearts in ways neither thought possible. When a terrible mistake threatens to drive them apart, they’ll have to decide if the love they found in one another’s arms is strong enough to fight for their hard-won happily ever after.

From New York Times bestselling author Katy Regnery, comes a tale of regret, betrayal, kidnapping, loss, madness, abuse, passion, love.
In this modern retelling of Hansel and Gretel, thirteen-year-old foster children Griselda and Holden escape from their abductor after three years of brutal captivity, and try to cross the Shenandoah River on foot. Tragically, one of them makes it to safety, but the other is left behind.
Ten years later, Griselda’s boyfriend drags her to a fight club grudge match, and her world is turned upside down when she watches Holden step into the ring.
Though the connection between them is fierce, bitter regret, simmering rage, and a tangle of physical and emotional scars lie between them, just as dangerous as the white water of the Shenandoah.
Never Let You Go is a story of fear and hope, defeat and survival, and two people–once profoundly broken–who discover that love is the only thing that can make them whole again.

Dear Savannah,
Almost twelve years ago, one month before my twenty-fifth birthday, I stepped onto a IED in Afghanistan which took my right ear, my right arm and hand from the elbow down, and left catastrophic damage on the right side of my face and right thigh.
Eleven years ago today, on Valentine’s Day (which seemed like such a sick and twisted joke at the time) I returned home to Danvers after countless procedures that still left me looking like a monster. Melted skin on my face and thigh. Earless. A stump for an arm. A limp.
I was faceless. Terrifying. Not fit for public.
A monster. A beast.
Someone who had lost his faith and his hope. Someone who doubted the existence of God.
Eight and a half years later, more or less, my doorbell rang, and standing there in a sundress she’d borrowed from her sister, holding a plate of brownies baked by her mother, was you. I couldn’t have known, in those first hypnotized, dumbstruck moments of seeing you, that you’d become my angel, my savior, my lifeline back to humanity, my second chance at living, my first and only true love.
Since meeting you two and a half years ago, darlin’, my whole life has changed. Your love and support gave me the courage (and kick in the ass) I needed to go back to Walter Reed and finish the surgeries I needed. Even though I still see a beast in the mirror, I don’t when I look in your eyes because all I see shining back is your love for me. I can hold you with two hands now, even though one of them isn’t the one I was born with, but you say you love it all the same. You smile that smile that makes my heart flip over and call me your “bionic man.”
Last Christmas, we ran into that couple from New York – Violet and Zach Aubrey – and spent the holiday with them. Maybe it was seeing them so happy, Violet sharing her news about her pregnancy, and Zach being so happy…or maybe it was something in the water. But, nine months later to the day—on September 25th 2016, our own little one arrived. Pamela Carmichael Lee, named for my mama.
Finding you was a miracle I never saw coming…which means that our daughter, Pammy, is a whatever comes after a miracle. I don’t think there’s a word for it. But if there is, it’s got to be something like “grace,” because when I look into her eyes, exactly like yours, I feel the restoration of my faith and hope. And I know that there must be a God, because someone as perfect as her came from heaven.
Twelve years ago I stepped on an IED.
And maybe you will call me crazy, baby, but if that’s the road I had to walk to find myself here today with my girls, I’d step on it 100 times out of 100.
There is mercy in this world. There are miracles. There is grace. There are gifts like your laughter and blessings like Pammy’s sweet smiles. There is goodness I never thought I would see again. There is hope if we have faith, and most of all, there is love.
Your love, which saved me. Our love, which sustains us.
From the depths of my battered soul, I will love you, my sweet Savannah. And when this world finally slips away, I will love you through eternity.
Happy Valentine’s Day.
Your,
Asher
