Dear Aubrey,
I’ve never told you this, but on the night I met you I was on my way out of the bar. I was almost to the exit when I spotted the most hauntingly beautiful woman I’d ever seen. You looked like you couldn’t wait to escape, and I knew I couldn’t let that happen. I felt compelled to meet you, in a way I’ve never felt before. Your eyes were sad, as though the world had disappointed you again. Beyond the sadness, I saw fire. You wore that tenacity like a badge, and I was intrigued. In an instant I knew every moment I suffered, endured, and lived was leading me to you. I hurried to the bar, ordered the first thing that came to mind, and approached you. That line I dropped about the beer needing to fulfill its destiny? That was really about me. I needed to fulfill my destiny. And I knew you were it. Everything that happened after… well, I wasn’t expecting all that.
