You know I’m not good at things like this…at boundaries like words on paper. The task is especially frustrating when trying to confine everything I’m feeling right now. Everything I’m feeling for you…and always, alwayswill.
Yes. Impossible.
But in this moment, I’m going to try. I have to try. The need to do this has been clawing at me for hours now—to the point that I’ve left you behind in our temporary bed, in this temporary house, to attempt this impossibility. Because I’m certain we’re about to tackle even more impossible things—and I need to remember that we can.
But only together.
We’ll hold each other as you bring our superhero son into this world. We’ll tell him about how his parents found each other by trusting that the impossible can happen, and that love can prevail no matter what the odds may seem. Most of all, we’ll teach him that such a love is why he has come to exist, and that no superpower on earth is more potent or meaningful than people of conviction believing in its strength.
We’ll teach him that while so many things in the world change, love is the constant force that never wavers.
I know I’ll be able to teach him that, because I’m now a dedicated believer of that truth. Because as I watch the first rays of dawn across the ocean outside our window, none of them match the perfection of my life’s real sunshine. The woman in the bed behind me. The human who taught me how to be the finest form of superhuman that I could be.
