Hey Mac–

It’s been over a year. Holy fuck. A year. A little over a year, to be exact. I’m not the type of guy to count down the months, days, hours, minutes, seconds. That’s not me, but I remember when I first saw you. Our dad’s company picnic and I had no clue how everything would turn out.

There I was, sitting with my buddy and we were shooting the shit. Talking about basketball, chicks, whatever. Adults were coming over to talk ball. They all like to hear themselves talk, you know? Everyone thinks what they have to say is important, but we gotta sit back, shut up, and listen. It’s what’s expected of us so we do it, even though the same guy preaching to you is the one who’ll act like your best friend if you have the winning shot or scream you don’t deserve to play the game if you miss that shot.

Then there you were, sitting alone and damn, you were beautiful.

I don’t know if I ever told you how I liked you from that first time.

I mean, yeah, you crawled in my bed. I was shocked. We’ve talked about this. And yeah, you were a stranger to me, but you were hot and then we know what happened that night.

Life got twisted.

Then you were in my bed, only able to sleep next to me, and it wasn’t one-sided. It was me too. I got addicted to you too. Couldn’t fall asleep unless you were next to me, but I never told you that. I should’ve told you that. Maybe you might’ve told me earlier what you were going through, seeing shit, hearing shit, I got it. I did. You know I did. Told you that. But want to know something weird? There were times I thought I felt her too.

It was you, but not you. An extra sassiness in the air and since you were hurting so much, I didn’t think it was you. Should’ve told you that too. And I will in this letter, but I’ll tell you in person too.

I love you, Mac. You have no fucking clue.

Basketball was my escape, but also my punishment. Still is, to be honest, but you make it better. You make everything better. I can go out, deal with the fans, the basketball supporters, the girls, the guys, the commentators, everyone. Coaches. Being the captain. Hell, even being a brother. You and me, there’s pressure on us. Everyone’s watching you now, making sure you’re okay and you know my pressure. Gotta win state. Gotta win March Madness. Go pro. It’s all piling on, but then I see you and I breathe. Feel like a pussy saying that, but it’s true. Fucking love you, Mac.
