Title: Corrupt (The Devil’s Night Series Book #1)
Author: Penelope Douglas
Genre: Contemporary Romance

synopsis 2 new

Erika

I was told that dreams were our heart’s desires. My nightmares, however, became my obsession.

His name is Michael Crist.

My boyfriend’s older brother is like that scary movie that you peek through your hand to watch. He is handsome, strong, and completely terrifying. The star of his college’s basketball team and now gone pro, he’s more concerned with the dirt on his shoe than me.

But I noticed him.

I saw him. I heard him. The things that he did, and the deeds that he hid…For years, I bit my nails, unable to look away.

Now, I’ve graduated high school and moved on to college, but I haven’t stopped watching Michael. He’s bad, and the dirt I’ve seen isn’t content to stay in my head anymore.

Because he’s finally noticed me.

Michael

Her name is Erika Fane, but everyone calls her Rika.

My brother’s girlfriend grew up hanging around my house and is always at our dinner table. She looks down when I enter a room and stills when I am close. I can always feel the fear rolling off of her, and while I haven’t had her body, I know that I have her mind. That’s all I really want anyway.

Until my brother leaves for the military, and I find Rika alone at college.

In my city.

Unprotected.

The opportunity is too good to be true as well as the timing. Because you see, three years ago she put a few of my high school friends in prison, and now they’re out.

We’ve waited. We’ve been patient. And now every last one of her nightmares will come true.

***Corrupt can be read as a stand-alone. No cliffhanger.

Author: Penelope Douglas
Genre: Contemporary Romance

DEVIL’S NIGHT is returning! Hiding places, chases, and all the games are back…

BANKS

Buried in the shadows of the city, there’s a hotel called The Pope. Ailing, empty, and dark—it sits abandoned and surrounded by a forgotten mystery.

But you think it’s true, don’t you, Kai Mori? The story about the hidden twelfth floor. The mystery of the dark guest who never checked in and never checks out. You think I can help you find that secret hideaway and get to him, don’t you?

You and your friends can try to scare me. You can try to push me. Because even though I struggle to hide everything I feel when you look at me—and have ever since I was a girl—I think maybe what you seek is so much closer than you’ll ever realize.

I will never betray him.

So sit tight.

On Devil’s Night, the hunt will be coming to you.

KAI

You have no idea what I seek, Little One. You don’t know what I had to become to survive three years in prison for a crime I would gladly commit again.

No one can know what I’ve turned into.

I want that hotel, I want to find him, and I want this over.

I want my life back.

But the more I’m around you, the more I realize this new me is exactly who I was meant to be.

So come on, kid. Don’t chicken out. My house is on the hill. So many ways in, and good luck finding your way out.

I’ve seen your hideaway. Time to see mine.

*Hideaway is a romantic suspense suitable for ages 18+. While the romance is a stand-alone, the plot is a continuation of events that began in CORRUPT (Devil’s Night, #1). It is strongly recommended that you have read Corrupt prior to reading this.

Title: Kill Switch (The Devil’s Night Series Book #3)
Author: Penelope Douglas
Genre: Contemporary Romance

synopsis 2 new

“I’ve done far worse than what I went to prison for. She has no idea how bad this can get.”

WINTER

Sending him to prison was the worst thing I could’ve done. It didn’t matter that he did the crime or that I wished he was dead. Perhaps I thought I’d have time to disappear before he got out or he’d cool off in jail and be anything but the horror he was.

But I was wrong. Three years came and went too fast, and now he’s anything but calm. Prison only gave him time to plan.

And while I anticipated his vengeance, I didn’t expect this.

He doesn’t want to make me hurt. He wants to make everything hurt.

DAMON

First thing’s first. Get rid of her daddy. He told them I forced her. He told them his little girl was a victim, but I was a kid, too, and she wanted it just as much as I did.

Step two… Give her, her sister, and her mother nowhere to run and no fuel to escape. The Ashby women are alone now and desperate for a knight in shining armor.

But that’s not what’s coming.

No, it’s time I listened to my father and took control of my future. It’s time I showed them all–my family, her family, my friends–that I will never change and that I have no other ambition than to be the nightmare of their lives.

Starting with her.

She’ll be so scared, she won’t even be safe in her own head by the time I’m done with her. And the best part is I won’t have to break into her home to do it.

As the new man of the house I have all the keys.

*Kill Switch is a romantic suspense suitable for readers 18+. It is advised to read Corrupt (Devil’s Night #1) and Hideaway (Devil’s Night #2) prior to reading this book. Both are available on Kindle Unlimited.

DAMON

Will is gone. He hasn’t been seen in months, and the texts coming from his phone are almost certainly forged. Something’s wrong. We need to act now.

Michael is ready to tear down The Cove, Rika’s hiding something, Evans Crist is a threat, and Winter’s father is still out there.

Everyone is off in a million directions, and we’re vulnerable. It’s time to do this.

It’s time to claim our place.

RIKA

A few years ago, I never thought I’d be here. On board Pithom. Miles out at sea. At a table with Michael Crist, Kai Mori, and Damon Torrance—men I now consider family.

We’ve locked ourselves on this yacht for however long it takes to address our agenda, and we won’t leave until everything is on the table.

Even things I don’t want to talk about. Things Michael doesn’t know.

We will find Will. We will solidify our plans, and we will remove any threats.

If we survive Conclave.

I was looking out the window today, watching our son play with his child, and it felt like a fist was squeezing my heart. I was scared for a moment, Tori. Everything overcame me, like how they say it happens when we die and our lives flash before our eyes? For a moment, I thought that was it.

But no.

I wasn’t dying. I was just…

Happy.

Everything, from the beginning of us, spread out before me, and I’d never felt more…in awe.

Like the first time I saw you.

I still remember what you wore that day. Short white shorts and that loose white tank top with beads draping around your neck and your hair everywhere. You smiled all the time, your brown eyes bright and magnetic.

I would look at you, though, and see nothing. A princess. Something pampered and probably weak. Someone whose life would be nothing but dozens of more summers at beach resorts just like that where people like me would wait on you hand and foot, and you’d refuse to look at them the way you always refused to look at me.

But still, I couldn’t stop looking. And every morning I’d wait on your table, pour your juice, bring you your tennis racket, pick up your boyfriend’s pool towels and your father’s golf clubs, and I’d fetch your mother’s champagne cocktails, and still, you’d refuse to see me.

You tortured me that summer.

Because soon, I would look at you and see everything.

Pensive and solitary. How you’d be up before anyone else and go to the beach to stare out at the sea in the morning. What were you looking for? Did you ever find it?

Thoughtful. You’d pick up your father’s cigarette butts on the course before I had a chance to and you didn’t take food at dinner you weren’t going to eat.

Determined and clever. No matter what they did, you kept your chin up. No matter the pressure, you stayed standing.

Beautiful. You were the only one who would play with the children on the beach. You ran with them and built castles with them. You were never selfish with your attention or love.

And when you danced in the sprinklers on the Fourth of July and cried in the pool on your birthday and let me carry you out into the ocean that night to feel the waves that scared you so much, I couldn’t deny for one more second everything my heart wanted but my brain was telling me to resist.

You were derailing me.

I had a plan. If I worked hard, studied hard, and kept my head down, I’d do my family proud someday. That plan didn’t include stealing something no one wanted me to have.

I realized, though, that night as we hid away in the solarium, unable to stop ourselves, that I wouldn’t love any life I’d earned if you weren’t at my side. I’d give up all of my dreams for just one.

And for the first time in my life, rage filled me. The idea of another man giving you a home, children, love… I was going out of my mind.

I think Kai is more like me than he knows. The only difference is I didn’t get caught.

I know I shamed him when he was arrested. I thought I’d failed. I thought I’d failed you. I thought it was my fault. I understood his anger and need for vengeance, and I never told him. I never told him that he’s strong and good. That he has a good heart like you and that he stands tall, no matter what comes at him.

I look at him with her, and I see you with me. She needs his arms like I needed yours. She loves his thoughtfulness and his determination just like I love yours. She loves him and feeds him, like you’ve loved and fed me, and together they’ll be forever.

Every day, he builds a life that will last, and as I look out the window and watch our grandson, I know that it was all worth it.

The years of struggling in that small apartment after I decided I couldn’t live without you. Your family’s disdain for me and their abandonment of you and Kai. The gambles we took in building what we have. The enemies we made, because we knew how we wanted to live, and we wouldn’t entertain people who didn’t deserve our trust.

I look at Kai and the family he has added to his circle—at Michael and Damon and their loves—and I admire how they make Kai stronger, all of them building a future together.

How that family will be Madden’s strength when we’re gone.

How Kai, Banks, and our grandchildren will be good for peoples’ lives and how the world will be different because of them.

And all because we fell in love one summer.

  1. I would definitely love to have Vicious from L.J.Shen’s book or Michael from Corrupt as a book boyfriend.
