Mrs Aberdeen,

I’m stuck in the jungle here, as you know, unable to call, which I’m sure must keep you on edge. I pray this letter makes it to your hands before I return in two weeks. Our candles, as you can imagine, should be conserved but at this moment I find I do not care.

I awoke deep in the night here, the animals calling loudly, the insects singing their songs, many stars as bright as the earth’s moon over my tent, and missing you and our wee babe so much my skin feels as if it’s on fire. I am utterly restless.

I’ve learned I cannot sleep without you.

Do you miss me as I do you? Do you wish for my hands as much as I wish for yours? I count down the minutes before I can hold you again. I don’t feel like myself, love. You said three weeks was too long and how right you were. My only consolation is the good we plan to do here but I admit I will never attempt this length of time away from you or our daughter again.

You’ve consumed my every thought these past seven days. I’ve been proving the least productive on this expedition because of it. Either I am suffering worse than any other here, or these men are more man than I. It’s rather pathetic. You would laugh at how I’ve been, Dear.

Ah. Sophie.

I whisper your name like a prayer every minute of the day, like some lovesick youth.

My beautiful Sophie. My sweet girl.

Imagining your hair tangled in my hands is the only thing keeping me from abandoning all and running back home. My God I crave the scent of your skin against my own, my teeth and mouth with yours, your shoulders at my back. I ache to taste your skin, hurt to breathe you in so much, I feel injured.

I am withering without you.

Am nothing without you.

Thirteen days.

Four hours.

Thirty-nine minutes.

We will lock ourselves away when I return. Be ready for me, Mrs Aberdeen, as I am more than ready for you.
